The Set A Good Example, or S.A.G.E., Award is presented to two seniors every month who have demonstrated leadership, positivity, and encouragement throughout their high school careers. The Senior S.A.G.E. Award honors the life and legacy of Carrie Colglazier, a Hamilton Southeastern graduate who passed away in 2023 following a drunk driving accident, and it recognizes students who reflect the character and values she exemplified during her time at HSE.
In February, seniors Landon Osswald and William Henning were recognized with this award for their leadership, integrity, and positive influence on others over their time at HSE.
Osswald was selected for his character that has made him a respected leader in all areas of his life. Teachers describe him as someone who leads by example, treats all with respect, and can always be counted on to do the right thing.
“Academics and sports aside, [he is] truly a good person with a caring heart for everyone that [he comes] into contact with,” Ms. Garrett said.
That same character is reflected in Osswald’s athletic achievements as a dual-sport athlete in tennis and basketball, where he consistently displays leadership, sportsmanship, and determination both on and off the court.
“He’s someone who shows up every day to work hard,” Coach Allen said. “He wants the best for his team and is willing to do whatever it takes.”

Henning was honored for his commitment to serving others that has defined his time at HSE. Through his wide involvement across the school community, Henning has made a lasting impact with both his generosity and uplifting spirit.
“[Henning has] a servant’s heart, and that’s going to serve [him] well in life,” Mr. Broughton said.
From leading Riley Dance Marathon to taking part in the Student Athletic Council, Henning approaches every opportunity with confidence and purpose. Teachers note that his willingness to step outside his comfort zone and always give his full effort has contributed to the trail of success he will leave behind.
“Every challenge he takes on, he does so full force, with more consideration and hustle than you see from a lot of students,” Ms. Lidstrom said.
As recipients of the Senior S.A.G.E. Award, Osswald and Henning embody the character, leadership, and compassion the award stands for. Through their commitment, service-minded attitudes, and engagement, they reflect the legacy Carrie Colglazier left behind and will continue to leave their own mark long after graduation.
“[Colglazier] stood for all good things about HSE, and [Osswald and Henning] do the same,” Coach Self said.
