Along with a whopping 91 other bands, the Royal Command and Guard competed at the Bands of America competition at Lucas Oil Stadium on October 24th. The routine they performed has been built and added to over the last few months, often requiring the band members to spend several hours a day rehearsing. Their dedication is a true testament to their love of the competition and the sport.
After performing for their peers every home football game, the competitions have become a highlight of the season for many of the Command and Guard members. Because of the heavy amount of time they spend together, their group has bonded, and many friendships have formed. Each performer was excited for the chance to perform in such a high-profile venue, Lucas Oil, as well as looking forward to work their hardest to make their time spent in rehearsal worth it.
Every student in the Command and Guard sacrificed not only weeknights and weekends for rehearsal, but also dedicated their Friday to this competition, forcing them to make up an entire school day’s work. Despite all of this, the students chose positivity and have a lot of pride and emotion invested in their performance.

The emotion and passion they’ve put into the show leads up to the end, where the students feel they can share the emotion with the audience. Performer Ellia Backer says the end of the show is her favorite as “it’s the impact”.
All of the band’s rehearsal time leads to this moment, and while it is not the only competition of the season, the students’
dedication and hard work might make you think it was.
Junior Lilliana Rodriguez shares, “We’ve worked really hard on the show, and I can’t wait for the other 92 guards to see it.”
When it comes down to it, these students are competitive and want to make themselves proud. It’s as simple as student Isabella Proctor says, “I’m ready to do my best and get a good score.”
