As members of drama club and participants in the fall play, both the cast and the crew of Still Life with Iris have dedicated hours upon hours each week, all leading up to the three shows on November 20th, 21st, and 22nd.
Playing the role of Annabel Lee, a pirate searching for her beloved ship, junior Sophie Lock recounts her experience in preparing for the shows. This is her second play on the cast, and her sixth overall show.
She shares that “you have to go a lot more in depth than people realize” and continues, “but it is always such a fun and challenging process.”

Another active member of Drama Club, Ashlin Patterson, who has been a costumer since her freshman year, details the role of costumers and their importance to the play. Costumers spend a majority of their time pulling costumes from the extensive Drama Club collections, as well as altering them and adding details when necessary.
While they may not be on stage, everyone from costumes, props, sound, backstage, lights, production, and everyone in between has contributed significantly to the play, and they are all united under the same purpose of delivering a meaningful and polished performance. Patterson describes how “actors, costumers, sound, everyone has been focused on a common goal” and adds, “so [they] would love for anyone to support what [they] have spent time perfecting.”
Cast and crew alike have all spent multiple hours each week and have spent every afternoon at rehearsal for the past two weeks, all in dedication to these three upcoming shows. They have dedicated their blood, sweat, and tears to this show, and hope to showcase their hard work for as many of their fellow peers as possible.
Tickets for the three shows on November 19th, 20th, and 21st at 7:00 PM in the Mary Armstrong Little Theater are available now on PurplePass if students want to show up and support HSE Drama.
As Sophie Lock says, “HSE Drama Club has worked hard to make this play very unique and intricate, and it’s so worth the watch.”
