The Make-A-Wish club at Hamilton Southeastern High School is known for it’s events like their end of the year car wash and monthly dine-to -donates but it has one event in particular that stands out above the rest, the annual haunted house. For ten dollars a kid, the haunted house is a lot of fun for a low price, all of which goes to the Make-A-Wish foundation.
“The haunted house is probably my favorite event we put on because of the environment there.” Says club president “Everyone is genuinely having a good time, whether that be volunteers or visitors of the haunted house.”
The haunted house has fun for everyone with different stations such as corn hole, ring toss, pizza that comes free with the event, and obviously the haunted house itself. This event is unique from others in the community because it is ran almost entirely by student volunteers.
“Helping at this event was really fun because even though I was volunteering for the club I was actually having a good time and its cool knowing all the money raised makes a difference in the community.” Says sophomore member of Make-A-Wish Evelyn Rodgers.
Even though the event is put on primarily by volunteers, there is still a lot that goes into it. “The haunted house is probably the biggest event we do in the club, and the preparation definitely shows that. Preparing the school is obviously something that takes a lot of time and manpower to do. This includes talking to administrators on the logistics of it and how we’ll keep the school clean throughout the event.”
The Make-A-Wish club as a whole is one of the most popular at HSE and it’s goal is to raise money for the National Make-A-Wish organization. This club is unique because it gets students from many different backgrounds and interests to work together for a common goal.
“Being a part of Make-A-Wish is really putting in whatever you want to get out of it. You can be as involved as you want, which I think is one of the best things about the club.” Says club president “I would encourage people to join because you really do understand the difference you make while being a part of this club, and like I said earlier, even if you are really busy, which most high schoolers are, you can contribute however much time you feel to the club.”
Overall, Make-A-Wish club is making a positive difference at HSE through a multitude of events, particularly their haunted house event which is for everyone and truly makes a difference towards the club’s end goal of raising money for the National Make-A-Wish Foundation.
