The Fishers community holds a large draw towards events held in the Nickel Plate District Amphitheater. The Parks and Recreation Department puts plenty of effort, time, and thought into hosting these events.
One recent event held at the Fishers Amphitheater was Glow in the Park, held over the course of two evenings and offering an enjoyable experience for all ages. On Sept. 27th, families were invited to celebrate.
This is an annual event, always involving glow-in-the-dark paint being tossed into the cheering crowd at a concert. With children cheering, black lights shining, and paint flying, Glow in the Park is a memorable night for all.
To put on such an event, the Fishers Parks Department begins planning a year in advance. In fact, they have already begun planning for next year’s Glow in the Park.
While most events require different methods of execution, Glow in the Park is particularly extensive. Due to the length and mess of this event, much manual labor is necessary to pull it off.
“Our small and mighty crew takes on new challenges with every season, and I love it,” said Sadie Hunter, the marketing and communications manager of the Fishers Parks and Recreation Department.
In general, events in Fishers are aided by the Fishers Parks Foundation, a nonprofit organization intent on supporting the Fishers Parks. They help fundraise through merchandise and other sales at events, helping to fund pickleball and basketball courts, playground equipment, and more.
The Fishers Parks Department works tirelessly to host events for the Fishers community, even organizing successful events such as the NBA Finals Watch Parties in less than a week.
As the student body of HSE high school continues to create new clubs, learning how to properly host events becomes more important than ever. Pulling ideas and advice from events throughout the community is one way to learn how to be successful in hosting.
“The job is gratifying when you believe in what you’re providing,” said Hunter.
