On September 16, the HSE choirs performed their annual fall concert, showing off the hard work they’ve put in over the past 6 weeks, including a summer rehearsal for the advanced choirs.
To kick off the night, Royal Vocals sang “Fever,” followed by a solo sung by Samantha Francis, Claire Huntzinger, and Layla Jensen.
“I got to perform a song from one of my favorite movies “Mamma Mia” with two of my favorite people.” Samantha Francis said. “The song’s meaning, being thankful for music, is very personal to me as I don’t take any opportunity to share my passion of performing for granted.”
Royal Singers continued to showcase their vocals with their performance of “There Will Be a New Day!” followed by Accents singing “Please, Please, Please.” Furthering the uplifting song momentum, Allison Bowman, Lauren Bowman, and Ashley Chisler showcased their solo of “Holding Out for a Hero.”
“My sister, Allison, is a freshman this year, and having the opportunity to sing with her at her first-ever high school choir concert is an experience I couldn’t be more grateful to have had.” Lauren Bowman said. “Ashley Chisler is currently a senior and has been both a role model and a huge supporter for me since I met her. Having the opportunity to be able to sing with two that I hold in such high regard was so special.”
For the final solo of the night, Ava Dolson and Mason McDonald sang a fluid duet while both playing guitar. Royal Sensation then serenaded the audience with the song, “Lift Thine Eyes to the Mountains,” followed by “Goodnight, My Someone” sung by Royal Edition.
Choir members were asked what the most challenging piece was to learn for this fall’s concert.
“Probably Goodnight, My Someone.” Isaac Smith said. “It doesn’t really blend if not everyone has their part down.”
To wrap up the concert with a show-stopping performance, Royal Edition and Royal Sensation displayed a choreographed dance and singing routine of “Shut Up and Dance” that required time over the summer to perfect.
The lifelong unity of the choir program was evident when the performance ended, and past HSE choir graduates awaited current choir members to celebrate an amazing performance.
“In choir, I never feel like I have to do something.” Samantha Francis said. “I get to perform with my friends, and it never gets boring because you can always improve. Getting a class dedicated to singing and dancing with your friends is such a blessing.”
