The Fishers Farmers Market, which opened for the year on May 3, has been widely acknowledged to have grown in recent years. Though many vendors appreciate the growth of the market, some concerns regarding individual booth sales were raised due to the increased number of vendors located there.
Presented by IU Health Fishers, the opening day of the Farmers Market was named Hope for Happiness Day to raise awareness for mental health issues. This event included mental health awareness booths hosted by businesses around the community. This market runs from 8 a.m 8:00 A.M. to 12 p.m 12:00 P.M. in the Nickel Plate Amphitheater almost every Saturday until September, regularly hosting over seventy vendors. Stores such as Angelo’s Italian Market, Le Petit Gateau, and Nicey Treat will be hosting booths at the market this season. The market holds plenty of free, special event days such as Accessibility and Inclusion Day (July 12th), Biz Kidz Festival Day (July 19th), International Day (August 16th), and many more.
Biz Kidz is an opportunity provided by the Fishers Farmers Market that gives children aged 5 five through 17 a chance to sell their handmade products at a farmers market stand. Additionally, throughout the market season Fishers Parks will be hosting a tent filled with fun, kid- friendly activities.
According to the Fishers Parks website, “the Fishers Farmers Market has become a growing success year after year.”
Many vendors seem to agree with this statement. However this might raise concerns for the older stands’ businesses.
“As a business owner, I worry that I will see a significant drop in sales,” Skyler Majors said. Majors owns the Wildflower Ridge Honey booth. “The pool of customer’s budgets each week can only be divided amongst so many booths.”
However, Majors does emphasize that “it’s not all doom and gloom,” stating that the market is, regardless, an impressive and beautiful event.
The owner of The Bubble Tea Lady, Avanti Snyder, writes that as someone who has a reoccurring booth at the market, she adores working with her customers.
The Fishers Farmers Market hosts a wonderful community of people, both shop owners and customers. Though it takes a huge commitment from the vendors, with some waking up as early as 4:00 A.M. each Saturday, this market is certainly a staple in the Fishers community
